Advice on application of Colourman paint

1 litre of Colourman paint will cover approximately 13 square meters, this will depend on how porous your surface is.

Shake the can well before opening and stir. Colourman paint can be applied straight from the can.
Apply one or two coats as required. To achieve an even finish don’t over load your brush, just dip the end of the brush in and paint in one direction with the grain.

To help to remove any brush strokes you can lightly sand between each coat or use a baby wipe to smooth the surface.
Once you have finished painting you can wipe with a dry kitchen scourer to flatten the surface, if necessary.

If you are going create an aged effect, once the paint is dry, you can start by gently rubbing the corners, edges and any areas that get wear and tear naturally. It is best to do this process carefully as it is easy to get carried away. So keep pausing and look at what you have done as you can always take more off.

Remember, to make this look authentic don’t be too symmetrical with your sanding. You can also use a wet cloth or baby wipe for this process but this will create a flatter finish.

Colourman paint may be left as applied or if required can be treated further to improve wear or to alter the appearance (see waxing)
If Colourman Paint is left with out finishing you can dust off and burnish the surface with fine grade steel wool. This will improve the wear quality and increase the resistance to marking, or it can be left and it will mellow down over a period of six to eight weeks to give an antique look.

Two Colour Distressing

If you want to create a Two-Colour aged effect you need to apply one or two coats of the first colour and then one or two coats of another colour. To create more depth between the colours you can apply either Colourman water based Lacquer or a coat of Colourman sanding sealer. Then lightly distress in the same way to reveal the under colour. Red under a dark grey, Colourman 116 under Colourman 705 this gives a strong corresponding look, or you can be more subtle with Colourman White under grey, Colourman 700. This technique is very popular in Europe and is often seen on French furniture

We would suggest you try your colour combination on a sample board to ensure your happy.
